Tips for men who want to try speed dating.

1 - Dress to impress - sorry mate but that BCF fishing shirt, thongs and shorts isn't going to cut it. You want to be the best dressed person in the room.

Have you ever noticed that in the animal kingdom, the males with the brightest plumage get the girls?

2 - Hygiene - Have a shower and a shave before you come to speed dating, trim those stray eyebrows, ear and nose hairs, trim your facial hair, get a haircut.

3 - Smell nice - You don't have to spend big bucks these days on smelling nice, local chemists have nice smelling knocks offs for just a few dollars.

4 - Get on the front foot - At speed dating there's plenty of time to mingle, don't sit in the corner arms crossed staring at your shoes, walk across the room and introduce yourself.

Everybody is there for the same reason, build some rapport before your 6 mins, this will give you a head start on the other gents who are also there.

5 - Make eye contact - when talking to someone practice keeping eye contact, nothing is more unnerving than a person who can't or won’t make eye contact.

Good eye contact makes you seem confident.

6 - Body language - is your body language open and welcoming or are your arms crossed, are you holding your drink at chest height or are your arms and hands open to meeting someone.

7 - A recent survey found that a woman's favourite word to hear is her name. Use it, often.

8 - Conversation, keep the conversation flowing and light. This isn’t a job interview. This is just an ice breaker to see if you want to see that person again. Don't talk about exes or compare other people at the event. Ask open ended questions, make it fun.

9 - Have fun, someone who is having fun and is playful and confident is way more attractive than that person who says, "My friend made me come, or "I don't want to be here”.

Be positive and embrace the experience.

10 - Keep the conversation natural. Have a list of questions memorized, but don't use them unless you need them to avoid awkward silences.

11- If you know someone's not a match, still use the opportunity to practice your lines and settle down if you're nervous.

12 - Try to take notes - Don’t be like an interviewer writing down everything they say, but if you like someone, write a note to yourself about why you like them and what you talked about.

That way if you match, you’ll remember who they are and you'll have something to follow up on.

Notes like “does puzzles” or “cat named Bob” can help to jog your memory. Also take a picture of your sheet before you hand it in, so if you do get matches you can look back at your notes.

13 - Make sure it’s the right speed dating for you. Many have age ranges, and it's best to get in one that is most similar to your age.

14 - Go in with appropriate expectations. If you go in with high hopes of meeting “the one,” it could easily be a disappointing experience.

15 - Make it a point to shake the other person’s hand. You can tell a lot by that brief physical contact.

16 - Keep in mind that everyone will be talking to many people which is confusing and overwhelming. Try to stand out by not having the same cliche "where are you from, what do you do" type conversation.

Just jump into something random and see if you can connect beyond resume type information.

17 - Be yourself: Don't try to be someone you're not. Be genuine and authentic, and let your true personality shine through.

18 - Be open-minded: Keep an open mind and be willing to meet new people. Don't be too quick to dismiss someone based on their appearance or first impression.

19 - Listen: Pay attention to what the other person is saying and show genuine interest in their responses. This can help build rapport and establish a connection.

20 - Be respectful: Treat everyone with respect and kindness, even if you don't feel a romantic connection.

Everyone is there for the same reason – to meet new people and make connections.

21 - Have fun: Above all, enjoy the experience! Speed dating can be a fun and exciting way to meet new people, so relax, be yourself, and have a good time.

22 - Turn up: The chance of winning lotto when you don't have a ticket is zero, same goes for dating.
